20 Islamic Way to Deal with Anxiety You can Try

Every human must have experienced problems in his life. It can be caused by various factors. Among them are personal problems, family, romance even from work. All these problems can cause anxiety in the heart. Moreover, if we are thinking of an uncertain and unknown future. Anxiety is the feeling of uncertainty and always thinks it in the mind anytime and anywhere. It is because we still don’t know about the problem for sure and still don’t believe that Allah is always with us and help us.

“Indeed, Allah, with Him (is the) knowledge (of) the Hour and He sends down the rain, and knows what (is) in the wombs. And not knows any soul what it will earn tomorrow, and not knows any soul in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah (is) All-Knower All-Aware.” (Luqman 31:34)

This is presented Islamic way to deal with anxiety.

1. Sharing with Others

Sharing or declaring to others related to the subject we face, is one way to express the anxiety that we experience. Sharing or more often said by talking to the nearest person can be a solution. Choose the people closest to you who can give you a solution for the anxiety that you face.

In addition, the closest people can calm our heart and make us restless in facing the problem. We have already know that humans are social beings, who always need others. It would not be possible for a human being to live alone without others, including his family, neighbors and the people around him. It is certain they will need each other.

2. Be patient

Patience is something that is easy to say but it is difficult to do in reality.However, if we can do it and always keep it in the heart for every anxiety we have, we will overcome them. We have already known that the problems are given to us because Allah wants to test His servant so we don’t need to feel too much anxiety and keep patient. If we can overcome this, our iman and faith will become better and we will become a better Muslim.

“O you who believe[d]! Seek help through patience and the prayer. Indeed, Allah (is) with the patient ones.” (Al-Baqarah 2:153)

3. Positive thinking

Positive thinking really helps us to overcome the sense of anxiety that we feel. It is because with positive thinking, then all forms of hardships and burdens that exist within us to be remedied because of the positive thinking we have. We believe that there must be a solution for every problem that has been established by Allah Ta’ala.

There will always be a way if we believe that Allah will help us. In essence, we must always positive thinking to Allah because He never tests His servant a problem that can’t be solved so we will not feel anxious anymore.

So indeed, with the hardship (is) ease. Indeed, with the hardship (is) ease. (Al-Inshirah 94:5-6)

4. Dhikrullah (Remembering Allah)

The one who constantly remembers Allah in anxiety surely will be calm especially in his soul. So, the sense of anxiety in us can be slowly removed. Allah has already promised for whoever remembers Him, then in his heart must be filled with peace that can only be obtained by remembering Him. In addition, Allah will be happy because His servant still remembers Him and will give rewards and easiness for the anxiety that the servant has.

“Those who believed and find satisfaction their hearts in the remembrance (of) Allah. No doubt, in the remembrance of Allah find satisfaction the hearts.” (Ar-Ra’d 13:28)

5. Do salat and prayer

Salat is the most important worship and must be done by Muslims. It can be an antidote various kinds of heart problem that lodged in the human heart like anxiety. By doing salat, our heart will be calmer and feel relieved especially if we do it in the mosque which is a sacred and holy place.

By doing this, we can be alone, communicate with Allah, and become closer to Him. In addition, we can pray every day and ask Allah for His help because He will help all His servants that are always pray and ask Him. Moreover, by doing salat and reading the verse of Qur’an, our heart will be touched by the greatness of Allah.

Allah has revealed (the) best (of) [the] statement – a Book (its parts) resembling each other oft-repeated. Shiver from it (the) skins (of) those who fear their Lord, then relax their skins and their hearts at (the) remembrance (of) Allah. That (is the) guidance (of) Allah, He guides with it whom He wills. And whoever Allah lets go astray then not for him any guide. (Az-Zumar 39:23)

6. Always grateful to Allah

The people who are always grateful will get the favor. Of course, this will add calmness to those who get it. The calmness gained is the peace of the soul that is always sought by all human. It is good to remove our anxiety that is caused because we are not grateful enough for the life that Allah gives to us. As for those who deny or do not want to be grateful, then Allah will punish them with a very painful punishment and test.

7. Be assured of Allah’s help and believe Him

Perhaps almost every human will feel this anxiety when faced with a problem. The fear of various problems that happened to him, fear of not being able to solve it, and fear no one will help him out of the problem. Here, we must begin to believe in Allah Almighty. As a Muslim, we must begin to instill deeply in our souls that Allah is the only best guide and help for His people. One more thing, we must believe that Allah’s help is close to His people.

And not made it Allah except (as) good news for you and to reassure your hearts with it. And (there is) no [the] victory except from [near] Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (Al-Imran 3:126)

8. Perform wudhu

Our souls will become calm if we always perform wudhu before doing something. It is because the water that we use to wudhu will make us fresher and more spirited to face anything. Anxiety will be disappeared in no time if we take a time to wudhu so it is one of the best weapons for every problem that we face.

9. Istighfar

For Muslims, it is recommended to say istighfar while releasing the breath, read “astagfirullah hal’ aziim al-lazi laa ila ha illa huwal hayyul qayyum wa atuubu ilaik” and focus the thought that we are asking for forgiveness to Allah. Istighfar is one of the best ways to calm our heart and mind to release the anxiety that we are feeling right now.

10. Make the most of the time for goodness

If human beings are able to control themselves by making the most of their time, and being able to face the bitterness of life without waiting for someone else’s hand (depending only on God), he will be able to achieve the dreams he has dreamed of. We need to use the time to do something good instead of worrying about something uncertain and make us more anxious. Allah loves His servant who always values the time and makes it for the goodness.

So whoever does (equal to the) weight (of) an atom good, will see it, And whoever does (equal to the) weight (of) an atom evil, will see it. (Az-Zalzalah 99:7-8)

11. Do not regret anything and keep looking at the future

Seeing and thinking about things that have been past is a silly thing to do. Instead of it, we must look forward. We must have a future goal but do not dream empty, and do not worry too much about the future because it is the source of anxiety (stress). In Islam, we should not be excessive in everything and should not mourn the past.

“Whoever welcomes the morning with a tranquil, healthy physical feeling and heart, has enough food today, as if the world has been enlightened to it. “ (HR Tirmidzi)

Confidence is something that human always lacks because it is difficult to do especially in a desperate situation. However, if we can do this, all of our problems especially anxiety that we feel will be disappeared and we will become stronger in facing the problems.
