Consciousness in Islam is a sunnah that has high merit in the eyes of Allah because it is a practice that makes it easier for women to enter heaven, veiled which is done solely because of Allah, to guard themselves, and to prevent slander or the views of men who are not muhrim very noble as did pious women in the past.
But often veiling is done without understanding or simply because it follows a trend just like law becomes a model of the hijab in Islam. On this occasion, the author discusses the requirements of veiling terms in Islam that must be met by a woman who is veiled in order to obtain true virtue. Veiling has almost the same conditions as using Muslim clothing that is in accordance with Islamic Shari’a, hereinafter complete.
Proposition About Veiling in Islam
Al Ahzab: 33
“O Prophet, say to your wife, your daughter, and the wife of a believer’s wife: Let them extend their hijab throughout their bodies. That is so that they are easier to recognize, so they are not disturbed. And Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
Al Ahzab: 53
“If you ask for something (necessity) for them (the wife of the Prophet’s wife), then ask from behind the hijab.”
An Nuur: 31
“And let them stretch out the hijab cloth to their chests.”
An Nur: 31
“And do not let them (the women) show their jewelry except those which (usually) appear from it”
An Nur: 60
“And old women who have been stopped (from menstruation and conceived) who do not want to marry (again), are they not guilty of stripping off their clothes by not (intending) to show jewelry and being polite is better for them. And Allah is Hearing, Wise.
From the verses, it is clear that a woman, who has been in good condition, both adult and elderly women, is obliged to wear hijab and Muslim clothing that are in accordance with the source of Islamic Shari’a because that is the best clothing for women. Indeed veiling is not required to be done but if a woman is able to protect herself completely then it is far better in God’s eyes.

Veiling Terms in Islam
- Veil Must Cover Hair
Although lately there is a veiled fashion trend, so many are doing ways to invite friends to wear hijab, but not a few we have encountered that veiled people follow the trend instead of following the commands of Allah SWT in the Quran. For example, they are veiled but unfortunately because when veiled it looks more trendy and elegant. Or for those who are just learning to veil, out of embarrassment at their appearance, even though their hair remains covered with veils, the front end of their hair is still visible.
- Veil Does Not Form Hair Like the Camel Hump
The veil is used not to form hair like a camel hump that is not in accordance with the law using a headscarf in Islam because even though the hair is closed it could still be seen and the Hadith of Rasulullah SAW he said:
“There are two groups of inhabitants of hell that I have never seen before: Men with their hands holding whips that are like cows to beat other people and women who dress but are naked and waddle. His head rocked like a camel hump. They did not enter heaven nor smell it even though the smell of heaven can be smelled from such a distance and so on.” (Narrated by Muslim)
From this hadith, there is a clear threat from Allah to someone who seems to cover his nakedness but the shape of his body is seen unable to smell the scent of heaven even though the heaven is in front of his eyes. Even worse for Muslim women who are veiled, but the haircut that is covered in patches is formed like a hump of a camel, it is also included in the category threatened by Allah SWT by not kissing the smell of heaven.
- Veil Must Cover Your Chest
Remember the verse above? “Let them extend their hijab all over their bodies.” The latter phenomenon often happened when wearing Muslim clothes but the curves of their chest were still visible. Where women who are not familiar with the procedure in veiling are right according to the guidance of Allah and the Apostle who covered their hair but the hijab does not extend to the chest so that the chest and body are formed.
- Veiled Equipped with Loose Clothes
The next requirement is that the hijab should not be tight and reveal the curves of the body. Hijab which is shar’i is, of course, a requirement of veil appendages and must be loose and long so that it can cover the genitals perfectly.
- Wear According to the Instructions of the Prophet
Shaykh Ibn Baz rahimahullah: Formerly veiled, including clothing worn by Arabs. The veil is also called the niqab, which is veiled which is open in one part of the eye or both. Its function is to cover a woman’s face. Therefore, the Prophet sallallaahu’alaihi wasallam forbade them to make a veil when Ihram. He sallallaahu aih alaihi wasallam said, ‘Women do not wear niqab and gloves when the ihram conditions, both during Umrah and Hajj.”
That is, if it is outside the Ihram, it is okay if a woman with a veil or a shirt to cover herself from the view of men. Whereas if a woman covers her face not with a veil, but with other objects such as using her veil (khimar) or veil, then everything is not done.
- Used with Open on Eye Parts
The veil should be used by women open in one part of the eye or both eyes and closed on both cheeks and forehead. Only limited eyes can be open. This is the truth. The opinion that veiling should not be open in the eyes, there is no argument about this. Even the sunnah of the Prophet clearly shows the permissibility (opening both eyes or one of them). However, keep in mind, that (which is open/visible) is only limited to both eyes or one of them.
- Not Used Because of Coercion
If women want to use a veil to cover their face, it does not matter. Yah Ayesha radhiyallahu ha anha said, “In the past, we were with the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam performing the hajj wada’ in the condition of Ihram. If the men approached us, one of us held out the veil and her veil from her head and placed it on her face. If the men have gone away, we open our faces again.”
The above hadith shows that they were sahabiyah without veils (but used their veils to cover their faces). This shows one side and the other shows the other side. If a woman holds out her headscarf (head and face) entirely and she can still see the road, it does not matter. Or he wets up while he can still see the road, so as not to fall into the hole, it does not matter to wear it. This case is loose.
- Not Done for Stylish Intention
The requirement for veiling should cover the entire face except for both eyes or one of them. Whereas if a woman with a veil is just to be stylish and attractive and beautiful, then showing her cheeks, then this action is inappropriate. The Sunnah of the Prophet clearly confirms that it is permissible to use the niqab absolutely. There are no details in it. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “Do not let women who are veiled and also do not wear gloves.”
As for the other women who are having pain, please wear it. If a woman views that if she shows eyes can make a man ajnabi (non mahram) tempted, and he is worried about this, then please wear a veil to cover her face or use other cloth. If the woman judges that showing eyes can cause temptation, then she knows best about her.

- Can Use Veils with Various Models
Now there are many circulating veil models. These include strap veils, bandana veils, zipper veils, butterfly veils, and other names that not everyone knows. Even not only in Indonesia, in European countries, America, and others, circulating veils with a variety of forms/models including the form of a veil that has a bond behind the head, either with a rope or with adhesive (velcro).
It is also possible that Muslim women who lived in the past wore the same veil form which is a rope veil. However, there is no cleric who has preceded the fact that it is not permissible to wear a veil with a rope tie on the back. In conclusion, the legal veil of origin is allowed. As long as there is no firm argument that forbids it, the rope veil is still clothing that may be worn by Muslim women.
Hopefully, all of us can always carry out all practices with the sole intention of Allah. See you in the next article. Thank you.
