Mosque is a sacred place for Moslems where all the religious activities held. Not only that, mosque is also connecting of friendship (silaturahmi) and brotherhood (ukhuwah) between Moslems both man and woman. A question often raise up in our mind that is a woman in her obstruction or during her period (menstruation) allowed to entering a Mosque? To know this subject any further, we should learn about the explanation as follow :
Menstruation or often called it as period is a matter that will occur and experienced by a woman. Menstruation is the process where the blood vessels arround uterus or womb are decays because the egg cell (ovum) produced by ovarium is not fertilized. Menstruation process is normal for every women and this mentruations cycle will occur once in a month. This matter ever mentioned in the commandment of Allah SWT as follow:
“And they ask you about menstruation. Say, “it harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and love those who purify themselves.”
From the above hadith it can be concluded that menstruation is a dirt and menstrual blood is impure, therefore a woman should not allowed to perform woship such as Fard Salah, reading Qur’an, fasting, and etc befor her menstruation over and she became pure again. Not only mentioned in Al-Qur’an about the matter of menstruation and anything related to it, it also mentioned in this following hadith :
1. Menstrual blood
Already mentioned before that the menstrual blood is related to impure and should be purify before someone doing worship, it is related to this following theorem. From Asma’ binti Abu Bakar said :
“A woman ask to Rasulullah SAW, ‘O The Massenger of Allah, how to if one of us clothes exposed by menstrual blood, what should we do?’ Then Rasulullah SAW said, ‘If clothes one of you exposed by menstrual blood, rub the blood then clean it with water. After that, you could perform salah with that clothes.” (In another story its stated that rub it, then let it flushed with water and you could perform salah with it).
Another hadith stated the same, as follow :
Aisyah said, “If one of you came to menstruation (period), she chirps blood that exposed her clothes, wash that part, and flush the rest with water, and she perform salah with it.”

2. A Menstrual Woman Allowed to Making Out with Her Husband
At menstrual period, woman should not be shunned since she is not impure even the blood itself is dirts. This subject already mentioned in the following hadith :
“if one of us (the wives of The Prophet) in menstruation (period) and Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam want to making out with her, that He told her to wear sarong to covering part where the blood came out (genitals), and later He kiss her.” Aisyah said, “Only, who is between you all could resist your desire as Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam did.” (Al-Bukhari)

Law of Women Entering Mosque while Menstruating
Women who are in menstrual state or period were not allowed to perform worship like salah. However, there are some opinions of the scholars that allowed or not for women in menstrual state could entering a Mosque which is a sacred place for Moslems.
As for the law of menstrual woman entering a mosque according to the scholars basically there are three of it, the one that totally forbidden it, the one allowed it with some requirement, and the one that totally allowed it. Those three opinions each one must have a basic law or theorem interpretation.
The scholars that embed madhhab of Maliki and Hanafi are the one forbid a menstrual woman entering a mosque and it is absolute applied with any conditions and situations a woman during his period would not allowed to entering a Mosque. This matter based on the hadith of Rasulullah SAW as follow :
“I do not justifies a mosque for people in impurity (junub) and not also for a menstrual woman” (Abu Daud 1:232 Baihaqi 2:442)
And also stated in the following hadith :
“So let the menstrual women stay away from Mosques.” (Bukhari 324)
Even so, those above hadith considered weak and not be a base for women forbid to entering a Mosque since the above hadith delivered during Eid Salah.

The second opinion said that a women is allowed to entering a Mosque with some reasons such as she just passing by or to get something in a Mosque and not stay longer inside it. This matter stated according to the scholar opinion of madhhab Hambali. As for the theorem or hadith which underlie this opinion are :
“O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through (a place of prayer), until you have washed (your whole body).” (An Nisa’ verse 43)
Hadith from ‘Aisyah, that Rasulullah SAW said to her as follow :
“Prepared al-Humrah (a kind of prayer rug) from Mosque. Later, ‘Aisyah said : I’m on my period (menstruation). He said after : “Actually your menstruation is not in your hands.” (Hadith of Muslim and Turmudzi 134, Abu Dawud 261, An-Nasa’i 272, and Ibn Majah 632) [AdSense-C]

As for the third opinion stated that a women in her period is allowed to entering mosque as long as her menstrual blood did not fouled the Mosque or the prayer place.
In a hadith its mentioned when Rasulullah perform Hajj along with ‘Asyah RA, He did not forbid Aisyah for entering Masque and doing Hajj rituals as well as other (Hajj) pilgrims did. As it is mentioned in the following hadith :
“Perform all the ceremonies of Hajj like the other pilgrims, but do not perform Tawaf of the Kaaba.” (Bukhari 1650)
Those are the explanation of the law of women entering Mosque while menstruating, it can be concluded that women are allowed to enter mosque as long as its only passing by and not stay longer or live inside it in a long time. Preferably during menstruation (period) avoid of entering mosque because it is feared that the menstrual blood will drips and fouled the mosque floors. Wallahu a’lam bis shawab.
